Comprehensive Retina & Vitreous Evaluations
Visual acuity test
An eye chart test that measures how well you see at various distances.
Tonometry
An instrument measures the pressure inside your eye. Numbing drops will be instilled in your eye for this test.
Dilated eye exam
An eye examination where drops are placed in your eyes to widen, or dilate, the pupils. Your eye care professional uses a special magnifying lens to examine your retina and optic nerve for signs of damage and other eye problems. After the exam, your closeup vision may remain blurred for several hours.

Slit Lamp Examination
The slit lamp is a microscope with a light attached that allows Dr. Fern to examine your eye under high magnification. This instrument is primarily used to view the anterior structures of the eye such as the cornea, iris, and lens. However, with special lenses, Dr. Fern can examine the vitreous and the retina as well. The instrument’s name is derived from its adjustable light beam. By changing the width of the beam, the doctor can gather important detail about each eye structure.

Indirect Ophthalmoscopy
Ophthalmoscopy requires dilating the pupils with drops to give Dr. Fern the best view inside the eye. The indirect ophthalmoscope can be used to examine the entire retina. This instrument is worn on Dr. Fern’s head. While looking through the instrument’s magnifying glasses, a special lens is placed in front of your eye, allowing Dr. Fern to see the retina clearly.
