Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a relatively new, non-invasive imaging technology which can image retinal structures. It provides high-resolution, cross-sectional images of the retina. A series of light rays bounce harmlessly off the retina and are measured by the machine. The machine never touches your eye, so there's no discomfort. It is also safe and requires only minutes to scan your eye.

This scan helps to identify blood and leakage in the macula, both complications from wet macular degeneration. It is used to measure retinal and macula thickness and has been used to study and monitor diseases such as vitreomacular traction, epiretinal membranes, macular holes and macular edema in diabetes, vein occlusions and uveitis. The technology enables Dr. Fern to clearly see the internal structures of your eye, so your problems can be identified and treated in the best way possible.
